Rachel Cowen

Primary Expert Practitioner - Maths

I graduated as a teacher in 1997 and worked for 9 years in a school in Widnes. Whilst there I taught mainly across EYs and KS1. Following the birth of my second child I decided on a career change. I started my own successful business, childminding. During this time I also lectured part time for Liverpool Hope University, assessed for the Early Years Professional Status with Edge Hill University, taught in both Further Education and Higher Education for Bury College and completed my Masters degree. I eventually returned to teaching in primary and started work at St Thomas’in Lydiate. I originally covered PPA across the school but for the past 7 years I’ve taught full time in KS1. I am now a Senior Teacher, the Maths and Religious Education leader as well as being responsible for supporting and mentoring trainees and newly qualified teachers.

I am passionate about education and teaching. I continuously strive to improve my practice and I am excited about empowering trainees through my role as an Expert Practitioner.
