About the Course
Mode of study: Full time
Start date: September 2017 – July 2018
Gain qualified teacher status (QTS) with subject specialism in secondary Engineering, qualifying you to teach in secondary schools and post-16 colleges.
Build your knowledge of education and Engineering through your research. Increase your teaching skills and confidence through two separate placements. Learn about the wider role of teachers in schools and gain knowledge about schools and the education system. Apply your skills and knowledge on school placements in two/three different institutions and develop the skills you need to be a successful teacher of pupils of all abilities. Build your enthusiasm, confidence, knowledge and ability to teach Engineering.
You will also have the opportunity to gain self-evaluation skills by completing a careers preparation profile. This provides evidence that you meet the QTS standards for self- reflection and personal development.

Your placements are complemented by school-based and university research that includes teaching sessions, seminars, group study, tutorials and assessment. During the course you will complete a PGCE which offers you 60 Master’s level credits, which you can use towards a Master’s Degree.
Entry Requirements
You should be a graduate with a 1st, 2.1 or 2.2 and you should ideally be able to show that 50% of your degree can be related to your subject. If this is not the case, subject knowledge can be supported by an A level in your subject, work experience and completion of a Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course before beginning your PGCE.
You will need a grade C in GCSE English and Mathematics. In addition prior to starting your course you will need to pass the skills tests in literacy and numeracy. For more information on the Skills Test click here.
